- Bengry Motors (Leominster) provides Mazda6 to Epic Cycles – Scott WRT Women’s Race Team
- Mazda6 Tourer will be used as a support vehicle throughout the season
- Team hopes to build on early success at Dave Peck Memorial Road Race in Twickenham
Professional women’s cycling team, Epic Cycles – Scott WRT Women’s Race Team, has taken delivery of a Mazda6 Tourer courtesy of approved dealer Bengry Motors. The 10-strong team’s determination to push sporting boundaries and improve performance, perfectly echoes Mazda’s philosophy of ‘Challenging Convention To Make Things Better’.
The Mazda6 Tourer, supplied by Bengry Motors in Leominster, will be used as a team support vehicle throughout the road racing season, with the last race taking place on 28 September 2014. The Mazda6, which features the Japanese marque’s innovative SKYACTIV technology, will support the women by trailing team members at each race and carrying essential equipment.
Viv Melia, Managing Director, Bengry Motors said: “We’re delighted to be supporting this amazing team as they embark on what promises to be a great season. We hope that the Mazda6 will prove invaluable to these incredible women, as they travel around the country to compete in this extremely challenging sport. With the rear seats folded the Mazda6 Tourer boasts 1648-litres of storage space, so we’re certain it will easily swallow the team’s equipment!”
“With the first race of the season already completed, we are looking forward to a successful year,” adds Phil Weaver, Team Manager, Epic Cycle-Scott WRT. “Our new Mazda6 Tourer will be an asset to the team as we travel across the UK – making life much easier by transporting our essential equipment to each event. We would like to thank both Bengry Motors and Mazda for generously handing over this stunning, and very practical, car.”
The race team consists of 10 dedicated women, each with a long history and commitment to the sport. The first two elite races – out of 29 – of the season have already taken place, where team riders secured no less than eight top 10 places and four podium spots. Following on from the success of the last two years the team is moving up a level for 2014, with significantly increased funding and rider support, and a number of new sponsors.
One of Mazda’s new generation models, the Mazda6 has already proved hugely successful with customers across the country. The stylish model was the second Mazda vehicle to benefit from the brand’s KODO – Soul of Motion design theme, first seen on the Mazda CX-5 compact SUV. Its SKYACTIV technology helps the Mazda6 achieve up to 72.4 mpg, while keeping CO2 emissions as low as 104 g/km.
New Mazda6 buyers are offered a choice of 36 Saloon and Tourer models with three equipment levels (SE, SE-L and Sport – with or without Satellite Navigation) and four high-efficiency SKYACTIV diesel and petrol powertrains. Prices range from £19,595 to £28,295 (on-the-road).
