Burrows Mazda Sheffield has once again sponsored one of the UK’s most successful cycling teams, Cycling Sheffield. As part of a long-standing relationship with the elite team, the South Yorkshire based dealership has sponsored the racing team for eight consecutive years since the team’s inception in 2014.
Established to help young riders develop and further their careers as professional cyclists, Cycling Sheffield is one of a small number of British Cycling elite development teams in the UK. The 2021 team is made up of six talented riders aged between 18 and 29 years old – Joe Clark (29), Will Harding (18), Ewan Mackie (19), James McKay (23), Matthew Taylor (19) and George Wood (18).
Competing at regional, national and international levels, the elite cycling team has achieved a number of victories and significant titles; including achieving top 10 in the British Cycling National Championships in 2019. Making an appearance at the HSBC UK | National Road Championships in Lincoln this weekend, Mackie, Taylor and Wood aim to repeat the success of 2019.
In addition to sponsoring the team’s uniform each year, Burrows Mazda Sheffield has supplied Cycling Sheffield with a Mazda6 Tourer as a support vehicle. Making full use of its fuel economy credentials, load-carrying ability and spacious cabin to transport riders and essential equipment between races across the UK, the decorated Mazda6 Tourer will play an instrumental role for the cycling team.
Dave Coulson, Team Manager at Cycling Sheffield, said “Now in our eighth year, our ongoing partnership with Burrows Mazda Sheffield is one of our longest running partnerships and is of exceptional value to us. The ongoing support we receive from the dealership is phenomenal and we can’t thank Burrows Mazda Sheffield enough for their continued support and use of the brilliant Mazda6 Tourer for our riders this season.”
Adding, “We have a strong development ethos for our talented young riders and we provide a challenging race programme alongside a professional team environment in which to learn and succeed. Our biggest success story to date is Connor Swift; a hugely talented rider who after completing two years with us, is now representing one of France’s biggest teams, Arkea Samsic, and competed in last year’s Tour de France. We are proud to have played a part in Connor’s development but I’m equally as excited for what the future holds for our current cycling team.”
Commenting on the partnership Dean Cooper, Operations Director at Burrows Mazda Sheffield, said: “We’re immensely proud to sponsor Cycling Sheffield for another year. At Burrows Mazda, we pride ourselves on developing young talent from within our business and community, so Cycling Sheffield along with their Manager Dave Coulson, are a perfect fit with our values to keep helping people reach their full potential.”
Adding, “Not only has the team achieved tremendous success on a sporting level throughout our partnership, but also they have positively impacted on our local community. Burrows Mazda has a very strong community ethos and we’re happy to work alongside our partners to support their ambitions. Good luck with the 2021 season and I hope the Mazda6 Tourer is the vehicle to drive Cycling Sheffield towards great success.”
