The all-new Mazda CX-5 has earned the 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+, the highest award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)2 in the United States. The recognition follows the maximum five-star ratings already awarded to the model by Euro NCAP in Europe and ANCAP in Australia and New Zealand, demonstrating the safety performance of the all-new Mazda CX-5 in independent assessments across all major global markets.

Developed under the concept of “Reimagine the Familiar” the all-new Mazda CX-5 retains the qualities drivers value most in the model while thoughtfully evolving them to meet changing everyday needs. It is designed to bring greater comfort, confidence and driving enjoyment to a broad range of everyday journeys. Because safety and peace of mind are fundamental to this experience, the model was developed with a strong focus on occupant protection, crash avoidance and advanced driver assistance technologies.

In the latest IIHS assessment, the all-new Mazda CX-5 achieved the performance required for the organisation’s highest award across key areas of crashworthiness and crash avoidance. These included occupant protection in frontal, side and other collision tests, as well as front crash prevention in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian scenarios.
Five-star safety performance in Europe
The result builds on the five-star Euro NCAP rating awarded to the European all-new Mazda CX-5 in 2025. The model achieved scores of 90% for Adult Occupant protection, 89% for Child Occupant protection, 93% for Vulnerable Road Users and 83% for Safety Assist systems. These results reflect the model’s performance in occupant protection and crash-avoidance testing, supported by its advanced driver assistance technologies.

A comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems further supports safer and more confident everyday driving. Depending on the European specification and equipment grade, these include enhanced Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, Driver Emergency Assist, Driver Monitoring, Lane Change Assist, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Emergency Lane Keeping and Proactive Driver Assist.
Nine Mazda models receive the highest IIHS award
Mazda’s commitment to safety extends beyond the all-new CX-5. Nine Mazda models sold in the United States earned 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards – more than any other automotive brand as of July 2026. Mazda has also reached the milestone of 100 cumulative IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards since 2008. This marks the third consecutive year in which Mazda has ranked as the industry leader in the highest tier of IIHS recognition.
By bringing advanced safety technologies together with the reliable quality associated with Japanese craftsmanship, the all-new Mazda CX-5 provides seamless functionality customers can count on across a wide range of everyday situations
