A team from Newport Mazda is set to complete a golf marathon on Monday 5th July as part of Prostate Cancer UK’s “The Big Golf Race” campaign to help fund research into life-saving treatments for prostate cancer.
As part of The Big Golf Race, golfers can choose between a half marathon consisting of two rounds of golf or opt for the more demanding ‘marathon’ golf race. Taking on the challenge at St Pierre Country Club in Chepstow, Managing Director, Shane Harris and General Sales Manager will play 72 holes of golf in a single day – equivalent to 26-miles and one complete marathon – with the hope of raising £2,000 for the cancer charity.
Shane Harris, Managing Director at Newport Mazda, said “All of us at Newport Mazda are delighted to support Prostate Cancer UK. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK and in some way has had an impact on our lives. We wanted to take on this challenge as a small gesture to support the charity in its life-saving work to fight against prostate cancer.”
Gavin Jones, General Sales Manager at Newport Mazda, continued: “Prostate cancer takes the life of one man every 45 minutes in the UK, which is the same time it takes to play three holes of golf. Sadly, my grandfather suffered with prostate cancer, so for me, I hope this golf challenge can help raise awareness for this disease and we can raise as much money as possible for Prostate Cancer UK. I truly believe together we can beat prostate cancer.”
Aimed to improve the care and welfare of those affected by prostate cancer, increase investment in research and raise public and political awareness of the disease, Prostate Cancer UK was the first national organisation for prostate cancer in the UK and since 2012 has invested over £37 million into ground-breaking research.
