After 25 years and three generations, Mazda is opening a new chapter on its legendary MX-5 roadster: The unconventional carmaker will reveal the upcoming fourth-generation model to an exclusive audience at two special events being held in Spain in early September.
The initial unveiling will take place on 3-4 September in Barcelona simultaneously to similar events in Japan and the U.S. Mazda’s guests around the world will be the first to lay eyes on the all-new MX-5, which holds the Guinness World Record as the bestselling two-seater sports car of all time. On 6 September, MX-5 enthusiasts from across Europe will converge on Barcelona to view the coming generation of the iconic sports car. Under the “Long live the Roadster” banner, both occasions will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the MX-5.
Almost 945,000* MX-5s have been produced since 1989. The winning principle underpinning the car that revived the virtually extinct market for roadsters has always been pure driving fun based on a lightweight design and perfect front-rear weight balance.
“The MX-5 is the product that best epitomises Mazda’s convention-defying spirit and our love of driving,” says Mazda Motor Europe President and CEO Jeff Guyton. “It has been grabbing people’s attention for 25 years, and with the new-generation model we’re aiming to share this passion with yet another generation of drivers.”
