Mazda adjusts production due to coronavirus

The Mazda Motor Corporation would like to express its sympathy and concern for all of those who have been suffering from the novel coronavirus outbreak and would like to extend our sincere condolences to the families it has impacted.

As announced on March 24 in response to the global spread of the novel coronavirus, Mazda suspended production for 13 days at production facilities both in and outside Japan starting from March 22. The spread of the novel coronavirus infection continues to have a global impact and infection prevention measures, such as stay-at-home orders and suspension of retail business operations, are still ongoing around the world.

At Mazda, in  most countries and regions, many dealer outlets have temporarily closed their businesses in response to restrictions put in place by the local authorities. As sales activities have been hindered, future demand forecasts have become difficult to make. Under these circumstances, Mazda have decided to continue to adjust production.

In addition, following the decision of the Japanese government on April 16 to expand the state of emergency to all prefectures in Japan, business will be suspended from April 27 to May 1 at all Mazda facilities in Japan. We will continue our sales operations in certain countries including China, following the rules and regulations put in place by the local authorities.

For other regions, including Europe, we will take appropriate action that respects the policies being implemented to prevent the spread of the virus and we will do everything we can to minimize the impact on the sales and service operations for our customers. In addition, we will continue to work on minimizing the impact of the virus on our local business partners who have always shown their support.

Mazda places the highest priority on the health and safety of communities, customers and employees and we will continue to adopt infection prevention measures such as teleworking and sterilisation at Mazda offices and dealerships.
