The Mazda MX-5 has added to its considerable awards tally by retaining its Most Popular Convertible title at the annual Honest John Awards. Unlike many other accolades, the Honest John Awards aren’t awarded by judges or a panel of journalists, instead they honour the cars that are searched for the most on the site and recognise the models that create the most interest amongst Honest John readers.
The lightest MX-5 since the iconic original, the Mazda MX-5 is shorter, lower and wider than the Mk3 it replaced. With the smallest overhangs and lowest centre of gravity yet, its dynamic proportions and Mazda’s KODO: Soul of Motion styling reflects its focus on driving pleasure in an unmistakably contemporary and dynamic way.
Featuring Mazda’s award-winning SKYACTIV technology, the MX-5’s ultra-efficient petrol engines and lightweight chassis ensure that agility and driver engagement is taken to a new level. With perfect 50:50 weight distribution and more technology than ever before, the MX-5 has firmly re-established Mazda’s dominance of the affordable sports car sector.
With a range that offers a choice of traditional fabric-roofed roadster or the unique RF retractable fastback, MX-5 owners have never had so much choice, while recent additions include the Z-Sport Convertible and RF Sport Black special editions.
Commenting on the MX-5’s win Honest John Managing Editor, Dan Powell said, “small, light and brilliant to drive, the Mazda MX-5 is open-top driving at its very best. Over the last 12 months the peppy little Mazda has enjoyed unparalleled popularity in its class to once again take the Convertible Car of the Year Award. We agree with our readers when they say the MX-5 is nothing short of a delight.”
Mazda Motors UK Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson said, “We’re delighted that Honest John has once again recognised the MX-5. This car is our brand icon and it embodies all that is great about our products. Its fun to drive character has strengthened the bond between Mazda and its customers for more than 25 years, and today it’s the ultimate example of how our SKYACTIV technology and KODO design philosophy help us deliver stylish and great to drive cars that have the love of driving at the heart of their appeal”.
Adding, “with the launch this year of the Z-Sport Convertible and RF Sport Black limited edition models, we now have an unrivalled choice of MX-5s in the line-up, ensuring that anyone wanting to drive a distinctive and stylish roadster can find what they need in our range.”
On sale since the 1st March, the £25,610 Mazda MX-5 Z-Sport stands-out thanks to its deep cherry red fabric hood, 17-inch black BBS wheels, and free-of-charge Machine Grey Metallic paint, while marked out by its free-of-charge Eternal Blue Mica paint with contrasting black rear spoiler and door mirrors, the £25,695 RF Sport Black joins the range on the 28th May.
