Determined to maintain the Mazda CX-5’s position as one of the most competitive vehicles in its class, the Japanese manufacturer is introducing upgraded versions of its compact SUV across the model line-up for 2014 – all of them incorporating innovative fuel-saving SKYACTIV technology.
Two new exterior colours are offered (Blue Reflex Mica and Deep Crystal Blue Mica). Every model is equipped with revised suspension featuring re-tuned dampers, bushes and stabilisers which improve driving dynamics by delivering increased ride comfort and reduced noise, vibration and harshness.
“When we first launched the Mazda CX-5, we were confident it would quickly establish new class standards thanks to its SKYACTIV technology and unrivalled blend of performance (up to 420Nm of torque and 0-62mph acceleration from 8.8seconds), fuel economy (up to 61.4mpg) and low emissions (from just 119g/km),” comments Peter Allibon, Sales Director, Mazda UK.
“The unique appeal of the Mazda CX-5 has been given numerous glowing third-party endorsements, most recently by experts at WhatCar? The top selling car buyer’s guide named the 150ps diesel Mazda CX-5 as Britain’s ‘Best Buy’ in the Large SUV under £25,000 category – for the second year in succession,” adds Allibon.
“Last year we sold more than 6,000 Mazda CX-5 vehicles in the UK, up 227 percent over 2012, and with strong demand across the globe the CX-5 will continue to be highly sought-after in 2014. This year the upgraded 2014 models will ensure that every Mazda CX-5 continues to offer customers a remarkably compelling ownership proposition, thanks to its great fuel economy, low emissions, fun-to-drive performance, high specifications, attractive pricing, low running costs and excellent residual values,” concludes Allibon.
Manual transmission Mazda CX-5 models are now fitted with a new clutch restart system that allows engine restart by depressing the clutch (within three seconds of stalling), without the need to use the engine start/stop button. Automatic transmission models now have a straight-shift gate, as fitted to the all-new Mazda3.
Further upgrades are applied to all SE-L Lux and Sport models, with a memory function for the powered driver’s seat and a 6-way powered passenger seat as standard. Full leather trim comes in Black (as standard) and for 2014, Light Stone leather (as featured on the all-new Mazda3 and Mazda6), is a £200 option.
Declaring the Mazda CX-5 its ‘Best Buy’ once again, WhatCar? magazine’s special ‘Awards 2014’ issue stated: “A large part of its appeal is down to the 2.2 diesel engine which is spectacular. It keeps emissions down to 119g/km, is one of the most refined units around and pulls strongly throughout the rev range. Practicality is another big plus point with plenty of space for four adults and the large boot has a flat loading lip. There’s also generous equipment and low running costs.”
The 20-strong line-up of Mazda CX-5 models for 2014 is priced from £21,595 to £29,595 on-the-road (OTR). Customers can choose from 165ps petrol or 150/175ps diesel engines, six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, three specification levels (SE-L, SE-L Lux and Sport, with or without Nav) and 2-wheel drive (2WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) – depending on model.
